Not even a month old and we're already suffering...

Ah, the ravages of time. Our young blog crawled from the primordial ooze, ate some of the indiginous wildlife, and then kicked back on the couch with a six-pack of some shoddily brewed ale and a wife-beater, waiting for the end that would inevitably come. But we haven't given up hope. At least, I'd like to think that there is some hope out there for the taking.

So today I give you hope. And a topic. "He Who Shall Remain Nameless" will need to get the word out amongst the guys that those who aren't participating in the blog should, and if they don't, we'll introduce them to our mutual friend, Bubba. I don't have any of their email addresses, so it kind of hinders my attempt at getting them to check out the blog. But you Mr. Nameless, oh WE KNOW you have the means of contacting them. You can't deny it. Well, you can deny it but we all know you'd be lying. Okay, so we wouldn't KNOW you were lying, but it's a safe bet that you would be. Not necessarily a safe bet, but I mean we're talking 60-40 odds that you WOULD know something about how to contact them, which is good enough for a trial of your peers. Or at least a trial of people who could have ran into you in a Wal-Mart parking lot. If they ever went to Wal-Mart.

I CANT STOP! Dang you Douglas Adams! I must apologize for my circular logic and diatribe, but I have just finished listening to the BBC radio production of the Complete Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy. Top notch entertainment if I must say so. And since I am getting tired, I'll leave you with a little something... enjoy.

What is this "Starcraft" you are speaking of?

So I saw the game play demo for Starcraft II today at work, and I must say it looks pretty sweet. Unfortunately, that's about where my knowledge of Starcraft ends. I have never played Starcraft. Ever. I know that some would say that was a sacriledge, but there you have it. I don't know why I didn't play. I would like to think that it was due to the fact that I've never had a computer that could handle the good games, except for at work. But I think that's a rather bad excuse. So as I was sitting through the co-worker torturing for having not played Starcraft, and looking at what was, I will admit, a rather impressive demo, I decided that I will play this "Starcraft 2". I will join the RTS world, and I'm completely prepared to get sucked in, spend hours every night trying to hone my skills, ruining my family life, wearing the same clothes for 3 days straight, and speaking the lingo. "All your base are belong to us!" and whatnot.

But wait. There is just one problem. I don't like RTS games. Okay maybe that's a little harsh, but it's true. It all stems back to "Age of Empires". I was first introduced to AofE by Westley and Joe Bob. I think the only reason they wanted me to play is so that they could have some easy kills on their way to bigger and better things. Pretty much how I am at playing Halo. But at least in Halo you can snipe a guy in the back of the head. Anyway, you know how it is. They sit you down at a computer and tell you all you have to do is cut down the forest with the little villagers. So you spend 30 minutes gathering wood, having a grand ol' time, and then a horde of Pikemen come screaming through and the next thing you know, they've ransacked the village and taken all the hot chicks captive. Which would lead to this exchange:

Me: "Hey, uh, how do I stop the invading hordes?"
Westley: "Oh, sorry, forgot to tell you that you need to build a barracks."
Me: "Oh, and the barracks will stop the hordes?"
Westley: "No, you'll need to use the barracks to make soldiers."
Me: "That would have been helpful to know 30 minutes ago."
Westley: "Sorry about that, I didn't expect you to be attacked so soon. You must be near the computer's village."
Me: "Oh, well I'll have to stop the compu... hey, how come the hordes were Red? I thought you were Red?"
Westley: "Oh, that was you? Uh... yeah... Hey Joe Bob, you want to establish a trade route?

So needless to say my interest was not held very long. So concerning this "Starcraft". Will I play it? Probably, it looks pretty cool. Will I play for hours on end? Nope.

But I reserve the right to change that to a Yes at any time.

Let's just see how long West takes to actually post something...

We're going to see how long it takes for Westley to figure out how to post on this thing. So for now, enjoy some artwork I did recently for a little contest at work. I'll post some MOAG inspired art when I get it all transfered to my MAC, but until then, enjoy!

Oh yeah, the idea was to try and make a Gungan look cool...

Welcome to the Pitt of Dispair. Don't even think of...

Yeah... uh.. well here it is. It's alive and well. Well... at least its alive. Anyway, we'll see if it can stay healthy or not.

As for what it is, well, that's open for debate. I guess we should start with MOAG. MOAG stands for Mother Of All Games. Or Master Of All Galaxies. Or Midgets Operating Albanian Gondolas... or, well you get the drift. Anyway, MOAG was the brainchild of one Westly Harris. Having played copious amounts of MechWarrior and Dungeons and Dragons, we all came to the conclusion that these games were missing something. Or better yet, they had too much. Tired of referring to the various breakfast cereal charts and running tables, we simply wanted a base standard of game play in which the GM could expand and dictate at thier discretion. Now don't get me wrong. MechWarrior and Dungeons and Dragons are both excellent games, and we had no intention of coming up with something "Better", just different. Anyway to make a long story short, West came up with MOAG. A space exploration RPG set in the future, borrowing heavily from various subjects as The Predator to Star Wars to The Good The Bad and The Ugly. And possibly West Side Story. And The Abyss. Okay basically any work of science fiction.

Well, my retelling of how it all began is probably a bit shady. It's been almost 15 years since we started this, so you'll have to give me some lattitude in my remembering. And so it brings us to this current enterprise, and the answer to what this is all about. It's all about MOAG. And Role Playing. Heck, pretty much anything to do with gaming of any kind. And I must warn you that it might be about Sports from time to time (I'll try to keep it to a minimum).

So please, leave your comments, ask questions, and we'll see if we can answer them. If you want to make a post of your own concerning anything that might fit the topic, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Anyway, until West decides to set the story of MOAG straight, keep rolling the dice.
